The Department of State Services (DSS) has released former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Obadiah Mailafia from its Jos facility on Monday, August 17, 2020.
Dr. Mailafia honoured a second invitation from the secret police, arriving their Jos, Plateau State office around 12:10 pm on Monday in the company of his wife and lawyer.
While speaking with the newsmen shortly before proceeding into the DSS office, Mailafia disclosed that he was unsure of why DSS re-invited him but a patriotic citizen of Nigeria who has nothing to hide, he has come to honour their invitation.
Dr. Mailafia was last week interrogated by the DSS in connection with a statement he made that a northern governor is a commander of the Boko Haram terrorist group in Nigeria.
He was grilled for six hours by the DSS operatives before being later released unconditionally but earned another invitation over the weekend.
Addressing the Journalists after Monday’s session, his lawyer, Yakubu Bawa disclosed that his client had a meaningful discussion with the DSS, noting that what the two parties discussed is an update on their initial discussion from last week.
He added that the DSS treated Mialafia with total respect and there was no iota of intimidation during the parley.
In his words, “It is common knowledge that Dr. Mailafia was invited last week Wednesday by the DSS and today’s invitation was a build up of what really transpired but I want to say this that we very much appreciate the fact that he was treated with decorum again, with honour and respect. There was no iota of molestation or intimidation of any manner.
“What we want to emphasize is like he rightly pointed out is that he is a man that loves peace, he loves this country so dearly and what has happened in respect of the clip that went viral which is the subject matter of our coming this afternoon again is to underscore the fact that he wants to actually make a clarion call to the security outfits of this nation.
“We know the current state of our security in this country, we are in a serious a serious enigmatic conundrum that it is difficult to know what is happening and all that we are planning to do is to see how we can have a better and safe country and it is in this light that he came again today based on the invitation issued to him to have an interface with the Director and other officials of the DSS.
“It was quite a fruitful meeting and we have no course whatsoever to be worried in respect of the invitation, we just want to keep calling on everyone in this country that we must live as one and also see how we can enhance our security.”
It will be recalled that Mailafia had last week during a radio interview program alleged that a sitting northern governor is the commander of the Boko Haram terrorist group in Nigeria.
