In July this year, MTN started notifying millions of its subscribers via SMS, Phone calls from the call center, and USSD to re-register their SIM cards to avoid being blocked.
The MTN SIM registration is said to be an update but the whole process actually requires subscribers to go through a fresh registration exercise. The subscribers are advised to re-register their SIM cards to avoid being blocked from the network.

According to a report, an MTN official claimed that the new registration is as a result of a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) that MTN has been giving up to N10,000 worth of airtime to subscribers that complete the re-registration process.

What Do You Need?
- Your physical SIM card
- A means of Identification, (ID Card)
- A pen to fill a KYC Form
What Are The Acceptable IDs?
- National Identity Card
- Voters Card
- International Passport
- Driver’s License
Note, for people without any of the above ID, they must either be recommended by someone who has any of the acceptable ID cards or should obtain a NIN (National Identity Number) from NIMC. Well, you may actually encounter difficulty in getting such help due to trust issue. However, be careful to also stick your neck for some else too.
