ReformPolice

The hashtag trended alongside EndSARS, as many Nigerians importunately demanded for either a complete scrapping or overhaul of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit of the Police.

They said that government must hearken to the cries of the masses over the atrocities committed by SARS operatives.

Some, however, called for caution in the campaign to end SARS, which they described as a critical component of the force. They expressed fear that should SARS be scrapped, hardened criminals may have a field day, robbing and maiming innocent citizens.

BuhariResign

EndSARS campaigners are now taking their punches several inches below the belt as they threaten to embark on a campaign for President Buhari’s resignation, should the Government fail to heed their call to end SARS.

But those who opposed the move said that President Buhari would not resign and that he must complete his term of office. They said the Administration has much more support and followers than anyone could ever imagine adding that while many Nigerians wanted an end to SARS brutality, no one would support an agenda to oust the President.

Bishop Oyedepo

General Overseer of the Living Faith Church aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, made an appearance on the trend after a Twitter user, who alleged to be his church member, called him out for maintaining a stoic silence over SARS brutality of innocent citizens.

The hashtag attracted series of reactions with some further claiming that Oyedepo hardly speaks about the sufferings of Nigerians, except government’s policies that affected his church business.

But many disagreed and said that it was unfair to single out Bishop Oyedepo, when actually there were many influential church leaders in the country.

They said Oyedepo has always been at the forefront of condemning bad governance in the country, which sometimes pits him against the powers that be.

Special Protection Unit

Nigerians have reacted as a police officer who reportedly shot a woman (Joy Eze) in the mouth in the Opebi area of Lagos, was identified by the Lagos State Police Command.

The trigger happy cop, identified as Sergeant Eze Aiwansoba, is attached to the Special Protection Unit, Base 16, Ikeja.

According to the Police, there was a domestic squabble which led to the shooting by the officer, who was off-duty at the time of the incident. The command added that he was currently on the run and that a manhunt has been initiated.

Meanwhile, those who reacted have called for his arrest and prosecution to serve as deterrence to others. They said it was worrisome for a personnel of the SPU, which according to them, is the most disciplined unit in the police, to have engaged in such an act. They said this was indicative of a systemic problem in the force, hence the need for reform cannot be overemphasized.

EndNorthBanditry

Attention on social media was today shifted to the issue of banditry as many Nigerians called on both government and traditional institutions in the northern part of the country to bring the menace of bandits to an end.

They said that the negative effects of banditry in the region were such that ought to have attracted attention on their own without anyone protesting over it or forcing the government to act.
